On December 26th, 2004 several countries were devastated by a tsunami off the coast of Indonesia. The areas of Phang-nga and Phuket in Thailand were also devastated and many people lost their homes, their possessions, and their lives. Mercy Ministries Foundation has been in these areas since January 1st, 2005 assessing the needs of the people.

In the wake of this tragedy, many children have been orphaned or have been separated from their families. With so much chaos and desparation we felt that much of the information that we were receiving was uncertain. However, the one thing that we are certain of is that these children are now at risk of many things, including exploitation.

Through prayer, we felt the Lord directing us to open a children's crisis home in the village of Phang Nga. That temporary home is where the first children started to be cared for by the MMF staff

After a period of further prayer and listening to God's direction a permanat home location was found in Khok Kloi, a town within the Province fo Phang Nga closer to where the tsunami hit.  Since then a complete set of homes have been constructed and were officially dedicated in December 2006.
