Phang Nga Home April 09
Welcome our recent graduate (from kindergarten), Yotin. This month was a proud day for our seven year old. Though he's gotten off to a late start, Yotin is developing into confident little boy. And that's a huge accomplishment considering his background of abandonment by his birth parents and then abuse by his next caregiver. We rejoice that he has made it past this recent hurdle and we have great hope for his future.

Poipet Hope Center January 09
Overview:
After 30 years of civil war Cambodia is one of the poorest countries in the world and one of the highest rates of HIV outside Africa. Commonly parents with HIV/AIDS struggle to meet their basic daily needs. In the border town of Poipet landless day-laboring parents and migrant workers earn 1-2 US dollars per day. Young children are commonly required to leave school to earn an income.
Hope Center is located 6kms from the city of Poipet in northwest Cambodia near the Thailand border and consists of 12 traditional styled homes, a school, a vocational training room, a kitchen, a garden and washrooms etc. Hope Center provides 6-12 month stays for adults and children affected by HIV/AIDS. Hope Center provides food, shelter, non-formal schooling, vocational training, life skills, adult literacy and spiritual guidance. The families may be eligible for micro credit and child sponsorship when they are assisted with reintegration back into communities after their stay at Hope Center.
Hope Center will eventually house 12-15 families - approximately 50 people. Hope Center provides a safe, comfortable healthy family environment to assist marginalized families affected by HIV/AIDS holistically via physical, emotional and spiritual support.
Poipet Preschool January 09
The MMF preschool was launched almost five years ago in a Poipet slum in a rented location. The school has 130 students 5-8 years old attending daily where they receive fruit, soya milk and vitamins.
The two classroom school is of grass and traditional construction materials and has a large play area. Many of our students go on to be the stars of their grade one classes.
The four young Christian female teachers are all residents of the community and thankful to find employment .
Typically families in this community earn their incomes by cart pushing and earn in the area of 1-2 dollars per day.
We host various events in the preschool including Christmas parties , medical clinics and other training.
In Jan 2009 we launched the Poipet Taekwondo Club for after school hours .
In 2008 we were set back on various occasions at the preschool with break- ins, flooding, wind damage and fire. However it just further resolves use to be there…praise God!
